Food, What comes to mind when I think of food? My initial thought is that food is something humans eat. Food is one of the things human ingest to survive, but is that really food? There are two ways to look at food. One way of viewing food is in the most basic way. Food is something that humans eat to provide nutrients and calories. The second view is the inspirational aspect of food. Food can be much more than just the elements that provide humans with nutrients and vitamins. When a person eats food for survival it is not something they put thought and effort into, but when food is cooked it is eaten for the pleasure. This is where one can see a different side to food. One can express themselves through food, but also express their culture with food. I can go as far to say food is life.
My family comes from a culinary background; my mother grew up living with a chef. Having a parent as a chef she learned a lot of different styles to prepare food and ultimately cook it. One thing that my family does that I plan to carry into my future family is cooking together. My mom allowed my sister and I to cook with her. We even got to try to make our own recipes. Some recipes came out good but the majority of the time the recipes failed. However that is how we learned to cook food at a young age. My favorite memory of cooking is when my family gathered in the kitchen, and we all cooked our favorite styles of cookies. My mom's favorite style of cookie is the M&M cookie. She loves that particular style of cookies. My dad is the macadamia cookie. He loves eating these cookies with a glass of milk. My sister loves making chocolate chip cookies. She loves chocolate chip cookies so much she does not eat any other type of cookie. My favorite type of cookie is the peanut butter cookie. I love making these cookies for Christmas. I love the feeling of the warm peanut flavor with the hint of sugar laced in the transepts in the cookies. My mother gave me the bases for making the cookie, but years after making and eating the cookie I manipulated the ingredients to make the cookie my own. The normal ingredients are:
Peanut Butter Cookies
Chris's Peanut Butter Cookies
When I eat peanut butter cookies it makes me feel like a kid again. The rush of peanut butter hits my pallet forcing my tongue to taste the flavor. These cookies bring back memories of my childhood. Making these cookies reminds me of my mom and dad in the kitchen preparing a treat for my sister and I. My sister and I only got to enjoy homemade cookies if we were bringing home grades above B's. So, I still today make myself peanut butter cookies as a reward of my accomplishments.
